Christians Prepare for the National Day of Prayer (1017 hits)
With the 60th annual observance of the National Day of Prayer (NDP) less than six weeks away, organizers are still looking for people to help organize local events. NDP, which was established by Congress in 1952 and falls on May 5 this year, brings millions of Christians together to ask God to bless America. This year’s theme is “A Mighty Fortress is our God,” based on Psalm 91:2.
“Our cumulative wisdom is not sufficient to navigate the challenges of our day; we must call upon the Almighty in prayer,” said John Bornschein, executive director of the NDP Task Force. Shirley Dobson is chairman of the group. This year’s events are moving forward despite last year’s district court ruling that struck down the federal NDP statute as unconstitutional.
CitizenLink and more than two dozen other pro-family groups have signed on to a “friend-of-the-court” brief filed in the 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in support of NDP. The brief argues that not only is the day of prayer constitutional, but that the ruling establishes hostility to religion and must be reversed.
