Score One for First Lady Obama and Nutrition Activists: CapN' Crunch Bites the Dust (616 hits)
No longer will children be lured by the Cap'n and his motley crew into eating roof-of-your-mouth-cutting, 12-grams-of-sugar-per-serving goodness.
Last week I learned that Cap'n Crunch, my all-time favorite cereal, will soon be "sailing into obscurity". I wish I could celebrate this news. Instead, every whole wheat fiber of my being wants to shout, "Cereal Killers!" I grew up on Cap'n Crunch. And I don't just mean eating it. My dad, a commercial artist who worked in advertising, created the character Cap'n Crunch, among other cereal box cartoon characters. Like the psalmist, I knew the Cap'n while his unborn body was still being formed.
Score one for the First Lady and nutrition activists who are fighting to curb the rate of childhood obesity in America. And good for PepsiCo, parent company of Quaker Oats, for sticking to its commitment to reduce added sugar in its products over the next 10 years. After all, isn't this what good parents do—help provide healthy, nutritious choices for kids? The fight against childhood obesity is a serious battle, and no doubt it will take a multi-front attack to win the war, prohibiting advertising of sugary products to kids being one of many strategic moves.

@Jen, you know I am from the south and you have lived in GRITS land...so as long as they don't start talking about how unhealthy loads of butter / homemade gravey is on grits...I will not fight them on a healthy breakfast. (otfl) (smile)
