Speak For Yourself: America's Resource To Stop Bullying (1583 hits)
Chicago, IL (March 9, 2011) -- "Over 85% of our teenagers say that revenge as an aftermath of being bullied is the leading cause for school shootings and homicide.' Consequently, we can no longer turn silently away from this seemingly growing problem. "One study found that on any given day, up to 160,000 students stay home from school because they are scared of being bullied.' If your child doesn't feel safe at school, it is extremely difficult for your child to learn at school.
- This is a comprehensive guide for parents, teachers, students, social services, foster care agencies and others to effectively overcome the obstacles of bullying.
* Develop a cohesive plan to identify and then educate bullies and those who are being bullied.
* Insure effective communication within and between staff, parents, students or other related parties to exceed previous expectations and realistic results

* Listen to the bully, the bullied and the bystanders, and all others involved to create a retribution-free communication environment where people feel safe, heard, understood, and respected

I don't remember being bullied, because back in the country we had a whole mess of family so we were taught to stick up for one another. As the saying went, "If you mess with one of us, you mess with all of us." That was pretty much the deterrent for folk to mess with the Wilson's and the Thompson's in our neighborhood. As the times have changed, so has everything else even in the schools. Children are being exposed to alot of violence through television programming and have taken on the character of many of the characters they see on these various shows. They talk mean and say nasty things for fun, but it's really cruel. I've seen kindgergarten kids tell other kids that they can't be apart of their group. It's really unbelievable.
Let's not even begin to speak of the bullying that goes on in the workplace!!! I've read several articles regarding that in the nursing profession. Usually it's a boss doing the bullying, but now its like everyone is doing it kind of thing. When I first started at my present job, I felt attacked and harrassed by the senior staff nurses to the point that I had to seek outside counceling for a while. Now that some of the people have left the job, things have gotten much better but there are the generation Y'ers and their highschool mentality.
I believe that bullying is due to multifactorial reasons like low self esteem, not feeling like one can measure up to the job, lack of job skills, perceived intimidation of other's talents or knowledge, and God only knows what ever else. The important thing is not to be isolated and alone. Be apart of any of the projects or professional organizations at work or join a social networking groups or a social support group. When one knows a lot of people and important people at that, I've found that pretty much keeps one from being a target of bullying.
