Take Action: House Committee Votes to Cut Abortion Funding from ObamaCare (116 hits)
The House Energy and Commerce Committee approved the Protect Life Act on Tuesday by a vote of 33-19. Democrats Mike Ross of Arkansas and Jim Matheson of Utah joined all of the Republicans in support of the bill. Several proposed hostile amendments were defeated.
The Protect Life Act would resurrect the language of the Stupak-Pitts health care reform amendment and remove abortion funding from the health care law. The act is sponsored by Rep. Joe Pitts, R-Pa. The legislation also would protect the conscience rights of health care workers.
Douglas Johnson, legislative director for the National Right to Life Committee, told LifeNews.com: “Critics of the Protect Life Act are working hard to fabricate bogus, diversionary issues in order to deflect attention away from the real target of the legislation — the multiple provisions of the Obama health care law that authorize federal abortion subsidies and abortion-expanding regulatory mandates.”
TAKE ACTION: Ask Your U.S. Representative to Co-Sponsor the Protect Life Act (H.R. 358)! The bill will amend the new health care law to remove funding for abortion and abortion coverage. It will also codify the Hyde-Weldon conscience protection provision to protect health care entities that refuse to participate in abortion. Congress should listen to the majority of Americans who do not want their tax dollars paying for abortion. Please urge your Representative to add his or her name to the growing list of cosponsors! http://www.citizenlink.com/2011/02/take-ac...
