Aside from controlling our cravings, triggering our memories and improving our s*xual health, our sense of smell is believed to have a powerful effect on our moods. Some common aromas that are said to have dramatic mood effects are the following:





Romantic scents: jasmine, rose, sandalwood, gardenia.

Energizers: citrus scents - lemon, lime, grapefruit, verbena, orange.

Refreshing/Uplifting: eucalyptus, mint, pine, citrus scents Discovering the impact of various scents to how people feel have led to the rapid development of aromatherapy industry. Aromatherapists all agree that aromatic stuff brings about positive effect since it help buyers manage their emotional lives.

These oils can be mixed and matched, depending on your preference, but each evokes a very specific reaction, as described:

Lavender Oil:
This oil relaxes you. Many aroma therapists place lavender oil at the top of their list of "calming" favorites. It produces a restful, peaceful sensation.

Clary Sage Oil: Clary sage is an unique scent of both light and fruity, yet with a sweet and floral dimension to it. It can bring on a happy feeling that helps relaxes a person. Clary sage also has been known to help ease fatigue and help with pain.

Rose Oil: The scent of the rose is another scent that has many benefits, including its ability to relax a person. It is also known as a scent that may help a woman to balance out her hormones (great during that time of the month). Plus, it has calming benefits. During time of hysteria and great emotions, rose is a great scent to burn to help calm one.

Lemon Oil:
Lemon's pungent, strong scent awakens you and refreshes you. Its antiseptic properties cool your mood and help you concentrate.

Lemongrass Oil:
Used as an antidepressant, lemongrass oil will fortify the nerves and uplift the mood. (As an added bonus, a few drops in the bath will work wonders on overexerted muscles, so it's an excellent après sports remedy.)

Jasmine Oil:
Jasmine is often considered the king of the oils. It has a deep, relaxing and even a sensual type scent. Needless to say, it also has sensual affects as well as relaxing benefits.

Chamomile Oil: Have you ever noticed how great a cup of chamomile tea smells? If you have, it shouldn't surprise you that chamomile itself has relaxing benefits, just by basking in its lovely scent. Chamomile also has a sedating effect and will help ease pain (possible good during a headache).

Orange Oil:
In addition to its invigorating scent, orange oil is used therapeutically as an antidote for sluggish moods. It is considered an antidepressant. At the same time, this versatile oil reduces stress.

Bergamot Oil:
Fruity, sweet, warm and spicy, this oil is used for depression, hysteria, fear and anxiety. (It is also used as a treatment for all types of infections, including those appearing on the skin.)

Myrrh Oil:
Thought to enhance spirituality, myrrh has a spicy and very earthy balsamic (resin-like) quality. Its rich, dark cinnamon-y scent is used as a tonic and a stimulant.

Ginger Oil:
Used to combat loneliness and depression, ginger is a zippy, woody scent with a hint of lemon and pepper. This scent is commonly applied for nausea, but it can also energize the spirit.

Marjoram Oil:
A warm, spicy tone with an essence of nutmeg, marjoram is warming and comforting. It's good for when you feel a slight chill. Also, a few drops in a vaporizer or on a handkerchief placed under your pillow will encourage restful sleep.
