The View: Why Don't Black Women Wear Their Natural Hair What Is Good Hair? African Hair and it's Significance: Connecting to our Spirit
I don't believe there is any such thing as African American, African Caribbean, African Nigerian, African Brazilian or any other hyphenated African hair. African hair is beautiful and diverse even on the African continent. This version of African Hair and it's Significance: Connecting to our Spirit is about t two minutes shorter than the original version, because of the new channel time restrictions... The last video posted to this blog explores the spiritual connectiveness and importance of Hair in African cultures. ...

I enjoyed the information about different hairdos. Most people like to change their hair styles and have a variety of looks, I see nothing wrong with expressing yourself through wearing several hair styles. I myself have a few wigs to put on for special occasions.

@ Sister Helen,
I'm glad you enjoy wearing wigs on occasion because I gave them up 4 years ago when my little one abruptly pulled mine off in a public park full of kids and parents. Let me tell you that it was the most humiliating day of my life. Since that time, I've vowed never to wear another wig!

I was watching some of the African tribes on the third clip and saw that they mostly wore the same type of hairstyles. Not trying to change the subject but, I saw that the women were still not covering up their breast area. I guess it's because they have very little contact with outsiders. The children had no toys at all to play with and I couldn't amagine why they didn't make their own bricks to build their homes.

@ Brother Saint,
How does your lady friend wear her hair natural, wigs, weaves, extensions, or a combination of all the above?

@ Saint,
A colleague was admiring my hair when she aburptly asked me why it was that our other colleagues didn't wear their natural hair. I told her the reason I stopped wearing wigs and then said that she would have to ask the colleagues their individual reasons.

Since Helen brought it up, I will mention that during my sojourn in Paris, many of the women went topless at the public swimming pool, so I think it may not be a matter of how much outside contact they have. Why do women here insist on covering them up all the time? Sorry, I know the subject is supposed to be hair.

Jake, there you go with the "my women" again. A Freudian slip or something your not telling us?

@ Brother Steve,
I'm glad that you feel that going a little naked is alright, me personally, I think people should put on a little more clothes.

@ Saint,
You go boy!!

I had always had hair past my shoulders and I use a flat iron to straghten my hair, But looking back, I have wore my hair in a variety of styles. I have wore some straight hairstyles, some curly hairstyles, some braided hairstyles, and some Siebra-what-the hell-was-that hairstyles (LOL). But at the same time I never was one to allow my hair to define who I am. It's what's on the INSIDE that really matters.
