Activists gather in support of “One Nation Working Together Rally” in Washington DC, Oct. 2 , 2010
"We do need to come together", says Davis, NEWBURGH – Members of organized labor, the NAACP and community groups gathered at the Teamsters Local 445 union hall in the Town of Newburgh Thursday to show support for the upcoming One Nation Working Together rally to be held in Washington DC on Saturday, October 2.
Some 700 busloads of people are expected from New York State alone.
Hudson Valley Area Labor Federation President Paul Ellis-Graham said the rally will address pressing concerns about the economy.
“To speak to issues that had begun in the 2008 campaign about the need for restructuring the economy, or putting people back to work, for protecting issues such as healthcare, and for and to let people know working families are coming together and that the Tea Party doesn’t speak for everybody in the United States,” he said.
Gwen Davis is head of the Southern Dutchess NAACP and she said they are rallying members from across the Hudson Valley to attend the D.C. rally.
“We do need to come together as a nation to support having new jobs, good healthcare, education and most importantly, justice for all,” she said. “The history of the NAACP is definitely an advocate for civil rights and human rights.”
The Washington rally will be held at the Lincoln Memorial.
