A Wrinkle in Time

If I could turn back the hands of time I’d return to ages four or five. No problems, worries or troubles. No school, Kindergarten was just more playing, we didn't actually learn anything. No crazy jobs with nutty bosses. No stress or pressure. I was completely healthy. I never had any aches, pains or problems with my body. My hair, skin, nails, were perfect. There was peace and prosperity because back then those two words were defined by a loving, caring, happy, supportive, healthy family life. There were no concerns. I knew automatically that everything would be taken care of. Love reigned and ruled in my life. Little did I know at the time but I was living in Paradise.

Endless playtime, complete unconditional love and care from my parents and other family, happiness, joy, innocence and fun. Life was a breeze. All my family members I knew and loved were alive and well. Life itself was fascinating. I remember as a child spending endless hours just watching the ants to and fro. I’d watch them pick up grains of dirt or sugar if I spilled some, and carry it off to their anthill. Summer evenings I loved watching the fireflies or “lightening bugs” as some people called them. I just had oodles of time to explore my universe.

Now I have time for nothing. Life’s’ pleasures elude me due to work, work and more work just to make a living and pay bills. A vacation? What’s that? Free time? Yes there will be some but I’m so exhausted from my job all I can do most of the time is sleep, do some chores then go back to sleep. Now I’ve reached the age where nearly all my immediate family are deceased and friends in their 40s, 50s and 60s have been passing away in quick succession. My life now is so fraught with anxiety I take pills just so I can fall asleep at night. Otherwise I’d be awake for hours fighting my demons. Unfortunately in my case the demons win.

Early childhood was the best time of my life. I suppose if I could I would extend that time period. I'd make it everlasting. This would be my idea of Heaven. If I could step into a time capsule I'd replay the years from 1961 until 1964 and stay there, forever. Posted By: DeBorah Palmer
