Not too long ago, I purposed in my heart to maintain the hanging Philedendron (sp?) plant hanging from an upper balcony to the lower level patio at the rear of our house. There were two huge hanging plants one hanging on either side of the large sliding glass patio doors. The plant hanging on the left as I peered through the glass doors cannot be seen readily; you must actually step out onto the patio to see that plant very good. As I began pulling off the yellowed, dead leaves, I noticed on the longest handing branch, a tiny nest was nestled between the branch and a huge leaf. I peeked into the nest and lo and behold--there were two little bellies moving up and down as two tiny baby hummingbirds laid on their backs in the 1 inch in diameter nest. I backed away, determining to watch them very closely; returned only to take a photo of the two little bellies. After that, I visited that little nest daily to check out the activity. It was the most wonderful experience watching the growth of these babies and the care their mother gave them until they both became too large for the nest and flew away as I crept behind them to take a final picture--missed it! That was not the end of the story, will continue it at another time. Find out the lesson I learned. Meanwhile, I'll find the pics I took with my cell phone to post when I continue wonderful account of "The Hummingbirds."
