BlackAmericaWeb Commentary: An Open Letter to President Obama (310 hits)
Dear, Mr. President:
I’ll be honest; I didn’t vote for you. Maybe that’s why you’ll take this epistolary column with a huge grain of salt. You portrayed yourself as a candidate of change. I’ve yet to see any change in at least two areas that most need changing. One is the laughably named the War on Drugs, which most Democrats and Republicans insist on waging the same way.
That would be by locking up low-level street dealers by the thousands and conducting jackboot police raids on drug dealers and innocent civilians alike. You’re close enough to Prince George’s County, Maryland to recall what happened to the mayor of Berwyn Heights and his family, aren’t you?
I just don’t get it. Some black elected officials, all Democrats, whine about the large number of black men in jail or prison. Then they support one of the two parties – and the same policies – that put most of them there. Here’s something else I don’t get: Can you tell me why Cuba is still on the State Department’s list of countries that “sponsor” terrorism or “harbor” terrorists?
Frankly, with the likes of Orlando Bosch and Luis Posada Carriles on our shores, that’s really kind of embarrassing. I’m sure you know who these characters are, but I’ll enlighten BAW readers who may be out of the loop. Both men are what this country has called “anti-Castro Cubans.” In other words, terrorists we abide.
One man’s terrorist is another man’s freedom fighter...
