STEP OUT FOR THE 14th NATIONAL DAY OF PROTEST TO STOP POLICE BRUTALITY, REPRESSION, AND THE CRIMINALIZATION OF A GENERATION
October 22, 2009

Join community organizers, families of those killed by police, victims of police brutality and repression, artists, and many others to say NO MORE! Stop police brutality, repression and the criminalization of a generation! No more Stolen Lives!

Speaking at the National Day of Protest: the families of Stolen Lives Nicholas Heyward, Jr., Malcolm Ferguson, Anthony Rosario and Hilton Vega, Timur Person, Corey Mickens, Ronald Battle, Gregory Chavis, Randy Weaver, Basire Farrell, Jahqui Graham, and Oswaldo Sevilla Moran. Also: Lynne Stewart, Carl Dix, the mother of one of the New Jersey 4, and representatives of Malcolm X Grassroots Movement, Picture the Homeless, Families for Freedom, Make the Road by Walking, People’s Organization for Progress, and World Can’t Wait.

At Voices Against Police Brutality, experience various forms of artistic expression of protest against police brutality. There will be spoken word, hip hop, club, reggae, rock, soul, film, photography, and other arts, with performances by: Chelsea Gregory, Division X, Fay Chiang, Final Outlaw, Ibrahim Siddiq, James Kennedy, Mahina Movement, Ngoma, N00dle N00dle, Regime Change, Ruben, Saint, Sir Mask, and Trevor Williams.

Excerpts from the following films will be shown: “Enemy Alien” (by Konrad Aderer), “William Kunstler: Disturbing the Universe” (by Sarah & Emily Kunstler), “If I Die Tonight” (by Seyi), "Every Mother's Son" (Tami Gold & Kelly Anderson) and “Justifiable Homicide” (by Jon Osman)

There will also be a photo exhibit by Ebony Brown and artwork by Oneza of Kongo.

An update of the Stolen Lives book will be released that day (the 2nd edition published in 1999 documents over 2000 cases nationwide in the 1990s), as well as the Voices Against Police Brutality mixtape CD and chapbook.

If you or your organization would like to table at Voices Against Police Brutality, please contact Naima at 914-310-3391 or Nince@pratt.edu. Tabling for organizations has a $15/$10 sliding fee. If you would like to sell food and/or beverages, the tabling fee is $25. The event is free.

The October 22nd Coalition to Stop Police Brutality, Repression and the Criminalization of a Generation has been mobilizing every year since 1996 for a National Day of Protest on October 22nd, bringing together those under the gun and those not under the gun as a powerful voice to expose the epidemic of police brutality.
