Black Career Women Flying the Frendly Skies! (133 hits)

Black Career Women Flying the Friendly Skies!
African-American women continue to demonstrate professionalism, intelligence and unlimited potential as they contribute to our overall struggle for unlimited freedom, access and opportunity in America. The sisters on Flights 5202 and 5106 (a jet owned by Atlantic Southeast Airlines) have proven that African-American women can do anything if just given a fair opportunity.

Four crew members from Atlantic Southeast Airlines made history last month when Delta Connection Flight 5202 departed from Atlanta to Nashville, Tennessee.

The crew members were all black women, marking the first all-black female flight crew in U.S. history, according to the airline.

The airline, a wholly owned subsidiary of SkyWest, Inc. hailed the achievement as "the first scheduled commercial flight by a U.S.-based carrier with an all-female, African American crew."

Captain Rachelle Jones, First Officer Stephanie Grant and flight attendants Diana
Galloway and Robin Rogers flew the route on Feb. 12, and returned on flight 5106 to Atlanta on a CRJ700 aircraft.

Someone identifying herself as a member of the crew apparently posted two photos from the flight on a Web site, and the images have been spread by email since that time.

"It seems fitting that this historic flight happened to take place during Black History

month," ASA President and COO Brad Holt said in a company press release (PDF). "Not only are these women gifted in their professions, but they set examples for young people across the country that with hard work, passion and determination, the sky is the limit."

The airline operates more than 800 flights everyday to 109 airports in 30 U.S. states, the District of Columbia, the Bahamas and Canada.

Articles written by a Staff Reporter are unsigned reports from a member of the staff.

They made history on Thursday, February 12, 2009 as the first all African American female crew.

This is what our young African American daughters should see on a regular, that women from our race is awesome and can do anything! Sista's can do great thing when given the opportunity to soar!
