HOW CAN MAN BE REMEMBERED, WHEN THE GIANT TREES IN THE FOREST ARE FORGOTTEN ? (1094 hits)
Life has a way of asking you questions that always leaving you stressed out trying to answer? For those of you who have children, there are times you wish the child would not ask you any of those questions that make you feel like an idiot, for not having a clue as to what the answer to that question might be. Questions like do fish drink water? Which one came first the hen or the egg? One day I found the neighbours child standing there with a water hose busy watering the family car, I thought that maybe this child was simply doing a chore, that they were assigned to by their parent.
On greeting this child and complementing them for washing their parents family car, I discovered that this child wasn't washing the car for those reasons that I had mentioned before. This child told me that they were watering the car so that it could grow, just like the plants in the soil. On hearing that response , I had to restrain myself from erupting into laughter. For one reason, I didn't want to have this child thinking that I am disrespecting them. It also hit me that this was just an innocent child doing what most innocent children do. That experience just brightened up my day for that day.
When you experience innocent uplifting events like that one, its more than just some funny encounter with a child. To me, that's Gods way of giving you your bonus share of joy for the day. Considering that things could be worse, it doesn't hurt to experience an innocent, unadulterated uplifting moment once or twice in your day. Some people are not even that privileged to enjoy that kind of gift on a daily basis. Ask the doctor who has to work 25 hours an day 7 days a week to the point that he cannot even remember what day of the week it is. There are somethings in life that are just special, not to be messed around with, such as nature.
The innocence of a child, the love of a child to the parent. You get the idea. I talk to people a lot in this line of business called entertainment, and you will be surprised at what constitutes a successful musician, artist or what have you. Everyone wants to rap about " my swagg " , please don't ask me what that means or how its even relevant to your existence. In this line of business you have to understand the currency of the trade. Our tools of the trade are lies, propaganda, exaggeration and innuendo. Let me elaborate. When a rapper comes to you asking you to do a music video that talks about his car, that he drives, you need to know what kind of car he really drives in real life.
One rapper asked us to shoot a video for his single " You are riding with a playa " . The interesting thing is that this rapper who was singing about someone " riding with a playa " happened to be a 35 year old man, who didn't have his own ride and was being driven around by his mama. Why is this observation so important in our line of business, as well as in life generally? After you have organized a few events in one city, you soon discover who matters in what area. You do what the dogs do you sniff the other dogs to determine who is the friend or foe. Bottom line, in this business everyone is selling you a hyped up image about themselves.
When they come to me, what they are asking me for directly or indirectly is, can you package me well so that my image can be sold as a product. Movies are not about telling stories, stories are not about dispensing knowledge, that's why you go to college. This thing is about packaging something for sale. When someone writes a memoir, they are not out to sell you a story, that's what the newspapers are their for. When someone writes a memoir they are selling you an excuse to purchase their legacy, and perpetuate their name for generations to come. In the entertainment world you have to be able to see stuff and not see at the same time.
How can man be remembered when the trees in the forest are forgotten? What is that question really asking? Its asking a lot of things all in one question. In reality this question is really an appeal to self examination, it has everything to do with self criticism and critical thinking, with an intention to motivate for the positive. It can be used to address various concerns. Here are some examples. Henry happens to be the employee that comes to work late, has a nasty habit of taking a smoke break every 5 minutes thereby leaving Peter his work mate, doing all the work, while he still gets the paycheck.
Soon the time comes for the performance evaluation and Henry's work mate Peter, receives a promotion and a salary raise, but Henry doesn't. Consequently Henry, did not get that raise nor the annual bonus for doing what the company asked him to do. Henry then goes into a tirade and claiming that management has a vendetta against him, and that everyone in the management team is a racist and that he will be suing for discrimination. On consultation with an Employment attorney, Henry finds that he doesn't have a case because there was just cause for the companies actions based on his employment record.
By Henry expecting a reward at the end of the year for his dismal job performance, He is being stupid and myopic. He is not looking at the big picture here, this is Henry's reality. Henry is the man who wants to be remembered, and while Peter is the Giant tree in the forest that , if it was in Henry's power, Peter wouldn't have gotten that promotion. What are we really talking about here? How can a man be remembered when the Giant trees in the forest have been forgotten? How is it that people who don't want to pay the price for something, are the ones who would like to benefit the most?
In Henry's case he simply didn't think that he would get caught, and when he got caught , he couldn't accept the plain facts. He was not playing by the rules of the game and that cost him his promotion and probably his wife too, who was there when the lawyer was explaining to Henry, why He ( Henry ) didn't have a case.
