I have a serious question to ask…where have all the good cartoons gone?! I mean Sponge Bob is cool but doesn’t it seem like as the years go by cartoons are being geared more towards adults?! The things their doing on T.V., I wouldn’t dare let my boys watch but Bryan Whiteside is about to restore our faith. His company, Collab Comix, has an awesome goal to bring great animation to new comic books, cartoons, and eventually the big screen. He shared some of his plans with me for the very near future.
Decovia: Thank you so much for talking with www.NotUrMommasNews.com. So what would you like to accomplish with these cartoons?
Bryan Whiteside: Do you remember that Saturday morning when you would get up and run straight for the T.V. with a big bowl of cereal? That’s what I want to bring back. Fun, clean, action packed cartoons that kids can enjoy without parents being worried about the content. My cartoons and comic books will have positive messages, martial arts, science fiction, and comedy.
Decovia: Who would be your target audience?
Whiteside: African American children from ages 6-15, in the Hip Hop community, would be my primary audience. Secondary would be the parents of these kids. Vernon(14), Marlon(12), Brandon(9), and Mellaver(12) are the main characters in The Boo-Yow Masters comic book series. In these comics and cartoons I am also incorporating love in the stories which is something that our kids need to see more of.
Decovia: Wow, as a mother I’m excited already! So have you always had a love for cartoons and comics?
Whiteside: Yes…still do! I’m still a big kid at heart.
Decovia: What should we be on the look out for first from Collab Ent.?
Whiteside: The Boo-Yow Masters are up first with the comics. We have a soundtrack in the works, DVDs, and the world’s first pay per view comics on the internet. As well as action figures, bobble heads and more.
Decovia: You must have a phenomenal team by your side?!
Whiteside: Not yet. Actually…I’m flying solo at the moment. I’m in need of writers, illustrators, animators, web designers, street teams, inkers, colorists, you name it. I also need a rapper between the ages of 9-12 for the soundtrack. I don’t want to come up by myself. Just like www.NotUrMommasNews.com, I believe in paying it forward.
Decovia: Is there anything else you would like to add Bryan?
Whiteside: Yes. I’d like to ask everyone to be on the look-out for our website www.collabentertainment.com. It’s under development right now but we’re working very hard on it so don’t forget to bookmark us.
I can not wait for these animations to be complete! It’s high time our kids had something decent to watch!
Absolutely thank you for this blog post R&B Chick. I miss school house rock on saturday mornings and my big bowl of kellog's sugar pops. I will admit I still like watching cartoons on the cartoon network. Bugs bunny and tom and jerry will never go out of style for the kid in me. (smiles)
