You want to be like us Though you put us down constantly My perfectly brown lips my big old hips My beautiful gold and brown colored dread locks My curvaious buttocks like mountain tops You want to be like us You put us down relentlessly Whenever you get a chance White women want to look like us White men want to take our stuff We are even marred by our own people who look just like us Black men reduce us down to cooking and cleaning Treating us like a revolving door frequently cheating Coming in and out only to reprimand In and out of our life as they chose Sleeping with the clean up woman under our nose I am outraged how people treat us They still want to be like us Yet they still beat us Still considered unequal Treated less than their house pet I am on a mission to adequately improve our position Our allotment according to God near transition We are a member of every member No one could exist with out the African Queen Our accomplishments noted all over the world Overcoming barricades triumphantly hurdling hurls You want to be like us Step into our shoes and take a seat Never mind Take those shoes off your feet And walk with bare feet In the scorching African heat Feel the intense sting That prejudice bring You want the strength in the tint of my color But you don’t want to be black Carrying our burdens on your back It is a fact you still want to be like us We are the early fiber of existence Still going strong with oppression gliding high We are African Queens No matter how you treat us We will always be the first mother in the earth African queens By Dorise Dixon 3/17/07
