..to make it to Ohio....I knocked on doors until my knuckles hurt..I withstood the taunts...I stood up to a " Deputy" Assistant Attorney General at the Union County Board of Elections in Union County, N.J...as I tried to interpret in Spanish and defend the right of a young..Peruvian American Citizen to vote, after deliberately being misinformed as to his deadline for registration... I left the building..and they blocked me from coming back in, with security guards, one of my own ( a Hispanic woman ) who got in my face and said we can't let you back in the building..and I stood there and I thought instinctively how Barack Obama would handle it , and I said "hold on let me make a phone call" ( I actually had been told to come back)..and I went in ..they frisked me and tried to humiliate me, but through it all, I kept on believing -- I went in and smiled at the "Deputy " Attorney General. With grace and good manners I defied, her misuse of authority. With intelligence, and the fire power of "knowing how to play the game."

I saw the Judge that tried to stop, my mother from leaving the nursing home , by punishing me, with an order prohibiting her removal " by her daughter," she smiled, and I smiled , yes Judge Brock..it's our day... I had a real sense of purpose.

I learned a LOT about the electoral process in America..Judges were on the second floor, ruling on applications made before the court as to whether each individual voter would get a chance to vote or not.

And last but not least..I made a serious networking contact. A 35 year friendship with Joe Biden from a wonderful 76 -year-old Jewish lady, is what got my attention. She introduced herself to me, and sat and talked for 1/2 an hour. So there! Ms. " I am a Deputy Attorney General "!!... and the lady was also an associate of Senator Robert Menendez, Cuban (D) -N.J...and a powerful contact to help me reach two goals that I have particularly been incubating for about 6 years.

So, today I want to say to you President Obama..thank you for removing the last bastion of doubt impeding my opportunity to help to heal this country. Thank you in advance for putting forth a program to lift the Cuban Embargo, so that I can travel home to be with my beloved family for the first time in 52 yeas!!

For you I will do it all over again, in 2012!!

I was so exhausted, that I turned off my phones, and went to rest at 9:00 p.m. Putting my faith in the Universal thought of righteousness. This morning at 0700 I called my friend..her first words were "It's a Brand New Day." Sweeter words will never come my way again!! Posted By: Marta Fernandez
