Welder/Fabricator - Decatur, IL Welder/Fabricator - Decatur, IL This is a full-time, hourly level position. Shift(s) Available: Night shift: Sun - Wed 8:30p - 6a, Thurs 6p - 2:30a. (Training on day shift 90-120 days; opportunity to move to permanent day shift based on seniority.)

Job Summary: At the Decatur Railcar Repair facility, our Welder/Fabricators play a key role in keeping our railcar fleet safe, compliant, and operational. In this role, you’ll perform MIG welding and fabrication work to repair and recertify railcars, following strict quality and safety standards. Safety is non-negotiable — if it’s not safe, we don’t do it. You’ll be expected to follow Lock Out/Tag Out, confined space, PPE, and all safety procedures every time. We’re looking for welders with prior experience, a strong work ethic, and a serious commitment to doing the job the right way.
Key Responsibilities:
Must be able to perform repairs and maintenance on railcars entering the shop and surrounding ADM facilities.
Perform MIG welding to repair, rebuild, and reinforce railcars as needed.
Conduct railcar inspections and document findings; assist in determining repair needs.
Execute cutting, grinding, gouging, and metal preparation work using torches and other tools.
Safely operate shop equipment such as forklift and railcar mover as needed.
Follow all Lock Out/Tag Out (LOTO) procedures when working on railcars, equipment, or energized systems to ensure personal and team safety.
Work in confined spaces and at heights using fall protection equipment.
Complete required documentation for repairs and inspections per ADM procedures.
Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members regarding project status and any issues.
Follow all company and regulatory safety practices and procedures without exception.
Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free work environment.
Requirements:
Prior experience with MIG welding required; must pass a welding and torch-cutting test.
Ability to work in confined spaces and wear a respirator.
Manufacturing, production, or military background preferred.
Safety-first mindset; adherence to all safety policies and procedures.
Good communication skills and ability to work in a team environment.
Strong attendance record and reliability.
Ability to work flexible shifts, overtime, and weekends as necessary.
High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
Must be 18 years or older and eligible to work in the United States without visa sponsorship.
On-The-Job Training Requirements:
New colleagues will need to undergo on-the-job training to acquire skills and certifications, which will be assessed according to established standards
Complete ADM safety, food safety, quality, and environmental training
Participate in company planner operations training
Equipment training may include but not limited to JLP, Forklift, Non-DOT Truck, Reach Lift, Lock Out/Tag Out, etc.
Physical Requirements:
Frequent standing, bending, kneeling, and climbing.
Ability to lift up to 55 pounds occasionally and 40 pounds frequently.
Walking up to two (2) miles per shift over uneven surfaces and railroad tracks.
Ability to work indoors and outdoors in all seasonal conditions.
Ability to work in dusty, noisy environments (hearing protection provided).
Atmosphere: Dust (Peanut - known allergen), cotton, canola seed, and odor
Company provided protective clothing required: Uniforms, hardhats, earplugs, safety glasses, hair restraints, steel-toed shoes, gloves, and safety harness may be required based on task performed; employees are required to wear all required PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) (i.e., hard-hats, safety glasses, earplugs, uniforms, and steel-toed boots) in addition to job specific PPE requirements. Employees in roles that require respirators will need to be clean shaven.
