Utilizes a systematic approach to nursing practice incorporating assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation. Provides continuing health care and education to individuals and families to help them achieve their optimal level of health.
Operating Room Nurse (OR I & OR II)
Position Overview:
Join our surgical team and provide exceptional perioperative care to patients of all ages. As an Operating Room Nurse, you will collaborate with healthcare professionals to ensure safe, efficient, and compassionate care before, during, and after surgery.
Major Responsibilities & Duties:
▪️Complete pre-operative physical, cognitive, spiritual, and psychosocial assessments using the nursing process.
▪️Formulate, review, and revise individualized care plans based on patient age and developmental level.
▪️Ensure accurate documentation and timely communication using designated hand-off tools.
▪️Perform circulating duties in the operating suite and supervise surgical technologists.
▪️Verify correct patient, site, and procedure through the Time Out process.
▪️Assist with patient positioning, comfort, and safety.
▪️Handle specimens accurately and maintain strict aseptic standards.
▪️Prepare the operating room and sterile field using Surgeon Preference Cards.
▪️Gather necessary supplies, equipment, and instruments for each procedure.
▪️Assist surgeons by anticipating needs and providing instruments promptly.
▪️Perform sponge, needle, and instrument counts per policy.
▪️Limit traffic in/out of the operating room during procedures.
▪️Support team members with stocking, supply management, and updating preference cards.
▪️Participate in performance improvement activities, in-services, and patient care conferences.
▪️Maintain compliance with Joint Commission standards and AORN guidelines.
▪️Provide patient care and education according to the population served.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
▪️Clinical competence in direct patient care and education.
▪️Strong assessment, problem-solving, and communication skills.
▪️Detailed knowledge of surgical equipment and instrument maintenance.
▪️Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and respond calmly to emergencies.
▪️Proficiency in electronic medical records and computer programs.
▪️Flexibility to work across surgical specialties and float between campuses as needed.
Qualifications & Requirements Required Qualifications: OR I
Registered Nurse (RN) with current state license.
Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
Minimum 1 year of previous OR experience.
CPR (BLS) certification required.
ACLS and PALS certification within 6 months of hire.
Prior experience with electronic medical records.
Preferred:
2 years of acute hospital experience; pediatric experience preferred.
Required Qualifications: OR II
Registered Nurse (RN) with current state license.
Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
Minimum 3 years of acute hospital experience.
Minimum 2 years of OR experience as both circulating and scrub nurse.
CPR (BLS) certification required.
ACLS and PALS certification within 6 months of hire.
Prior experience with electronic medical records.
