Position Summary:

The Department of Physics at Rollins College invites applications for a one-year position as Visiting Assistant Professor in Physics beginning August 2026. Preference will be given to applicants with an understanding of liberal arts education that includes a student-centered undergraduate experience. We strongly encourage applications from candidates who are committed to mentoring and educating a broad range of students, particularly those who are traditionally underrepresented in physics and astronomy.

A Ph.D. in Physics or a closely related field is required. Undergraduate teaching experience or clear promise of excellence in teaching is desirable. The teaching load is four courses per semester. Courses will include Introductory Physics I and II (with lab), a topics course in the candidate's subfield for physics majors, a cross-disciplinary elective that supports the Science Division (for example Materials Science, Medical Physics, Geophysics / Seismology, Robotics, or environmental physics), and general-education or lower-level physics courses. All lecture and laboratory sections are taught by the faculty. Candidates should be committed to creative, inclusive teaching across levels, strong communication, and the liberal-arts mission.

Minimum Qualifications and Education: 
  • Ph.D. in Physics or a related field; ABD considered with planned completion during the appointment term.
  • Demonstrated commitment to creative teaching of both introductory and advanced undergraduate physics courses, as well as courses for the general education curriculum.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the liberal arts.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Undergraduate teaching experience.
