Position Description:
The College of Charleston invites qualified applicants for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor position to serve as Director of Nursing Education in the School of Health Sciences.

The successful candidate will join an active faculty in the newly formed and expanding School of Health Sciences, which houses 21 full-time teacher-scholars who serve approximately 800 undergraduate majors. The school offers undergraduate degrees in Exercise Science, Public Health, Health Services Administration & Management and beginning in January 2026 a RN-BSN Nursing degree. This new online curriculum has been developed to provide students with the requisite knowledge and skills as well as to meet future program accreditation requirements. We are committed to preparing and equipping the next generation of health professionals and are seeking applicants who share our mission and want to engage with undergraduate students in and outside the classroom through dynamic teaching, professional advising, and research mentorship.

Founded in 1770, the College of Charleston is nationally recognized as a public comprehensive doctoral university that ranks among the nation’s top institutions for quality education, student life, and affordability. The student body numbers approximately 11,500 students in undergraduate and graduate programs, delivering a small-college feel blended with the advantages and diversity of a mid-sized university. The College’s urban campus is embedded in the center of historic downtown Charleston, South Carolina, amongst a thriving community of world-class businesses, restaurants, and the local healthcare industry, while still only a 20-minute drive to three public beaches. You are invited to visit our websites to learn more about The College and the school.

The required responsibilities of this position include: 1) overseeing the process for initial and ongoing accreditation of the program through effective leadership and management, 2) conducting program, course, and student outcomes assessment, 3) providing high-quality instruction within the discipline, 4) maintaining an independent research agenda at the level of expectation for a tenure-track faculty member, 5) offering academic advising and professional mentoring for undergraduate students, 6) engaging in professional and college-wide service activities, and 7) demonstrating an ability to build and maintain strategic partnerships and collaborate effectively with external organizations to achieve shared goals.

Applicants must possess an earned Doctoral Degree in Nursing from an accredited institution, hold an active and unencumbered license to practice nursing in the state of South Carolina, and have prior experience in higher education. Applicants should show scholarly promise through authorship on professional presentations and peer-reviewed publications in relevant journals. Applicants must be able to demonstrate the ability to teach undergraduate-level students with the promise of teaching excellence. Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate experience with administrative tasks, including leadership, management and accreditation.

Interested individuals should apply online at https://jobs.cofc.edu, and include a 1) curriculum vitae, 2) cover letter that describes your administrative experience and research agenda, 3) a teaching philosophy that describes your teaching experience and pedagogical strategies, highlighting courses capable of and interested in instructing, 4) unofficial graduate transcripts, 5) contact information for three references. Questions regarding the position can be directed to Dr. Wes Dudgeon at dudgeonw@charleston.edu. Applications completed by July 1, 2025 will receive full consideration by the search committee. This is an eleven-month position; the salary and benefits package are competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications.
