Obama Effigy Hung from College Tree, Is racial slurs and discrimination real or is it imaginary (309 hits)

Black Voices reports that someone at a small Christian university in NEWBERG, Ore hung a life-size cardboard reproduction of Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama. Is racial slurs and discrimination real or is it imaginary is the question. BV reports that this act with racial undertones has outraged students and school leaders alike. BV also reports that University spokesman Rob Felton said Wednesday that the commercially produced reproduction had been suspended from the branch of a tree with fishing line around the neck. Taped to the cardboard cutout of the black senator from Illinois was a message targeting participants in Act Six, a scholarship program geared toward increasing the number of minority and low-income students at several Christian colleges, mostly in the Northwest. The message read, "Act Six reject." With all of the negative things that seem to still surround blacks today, would you like to have some words of encouragement, something that is positive that will help you to be strong just one more day? Get a copy of Racial Slurs and Discrimination Is it real or imaginary. My name is Melba Thomas and I am the author. The book is an easy read, not a novel or anything like that the message inside of the book is straight to the point. One thing is for sure we as Black Americans can change a lot of things, but we can’t change another human being. The only person that we can change is our self. Please accept the challenge be Part of The Solution. Get your copy of Racial Slurs & Discrimination is it real or imaginary today. Available at Barnes & Noble, Amazon.com, or you can get the book @ http://www.tatepublishing.com/bookstore/bo...

Those are cowards. Why didn't they protest openly? My point exactly...

Hi Melba,
I say "Yes, racial slurs and discrimination are real and present today." You see it everywhere in subtle ways. You're shopping and the cashier is with one customer, you're next in line, a white woman or man walks up, suddenly its your turn, the cashier overlooks you, and offers to help the white person? Is it me? I doubt it. Little idiotic things like this, show that we have a long journey ahead. I agree, we cannot change others. My best defense, is to exhibit excellence and character wherever I go & let go and let God handle others.

I know what you mean Marlene about being overlooked. People need to be more culturally sensitive to others and that's what I can't understand about the U.S. People are so culturally unaware of others diversity. I think people who use racial slurs to discriminate lack understanding a good sense.
