HOW USDE MOST POPULAR TEACHER RESOURCES SUPPORTS TEACHING PROFESSION (1513 hits)

Here at ED, one of our top priorities this year is to support teachers and elevate the teaching profession. To do so, we are working to make sure that the right information reaches teachers all across the country. Here are a few of our most popular resources to help support you in your classroom:

If You’re Currently in the Classroom

Check out our Teacher’s Edition newsletter. We’d love for you to sign up — and tell your friends! This weekly bulletin gathers the latest news and info for educators – and includes resources for teachers, by teachers. We’d also invite you to learn more about the Teach to Lead initiative and our Teaching Ambassador Fellowships and Principal Ambassador Fellowships.

If You’re Interested in Learning From Other Teachers

As you know, teaching can be a difficult job, but it can also be incredibly rewarding. Our new feature — Voice from the Classroom — allows teachers to tell their stories in their own words about why they teach and some of what has worked for them. From celebrating the value of diversity to creating “kindness agents” to engaging with students at high needs schools to calling on other teachers to lift up the profession, we want to make sure that teachers get to hear from each other.

If You’re Passionate about Equity & Civil Rights

Know your rights — and the rights of your students! The mission of our Office of Civil Rights (OCR) is to ensure equal access to education. Get info about protecting students, filing a complaint, and gaining access to useful Civil Rights Data Collection (CRDC) information.

If You’re Involved in Special Education

The Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services (OSERS) understands the many challenges still facing individuals with disabilities and their families. We’re committed to improving results and outcomes for people with disabilities of all ages – and support programs that serve millions of children, youth and adults with disabilities. Gain access to info, resources and webinars related to inclusion and the #RethinkDiscipline campaign.

If You’re Interested in School Culture & Climate

Check out the School Climate Survey, along with resources to help develop systems to support positive culture and climate in your school. We’ve also got an English Learner Toolkit and resources in a variety of languages.

If You’re Interested in Family and Community Engagement

Family and community engagement is increasingly important for schools and districts across the country, which is why we recommend checking out our Partners in Education framework doc. We also have a checklist made just for parents to help them thrive in school (which is available in Spanish, too). There’s a wealth of additional information and resources available, including resources about staying healthy, preventing bullying and succeeding beyond school and outside of the classroom.

If You Want to Know How ESSA Will Impact You

The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) was signed by President Obama on December 10, 2015. The new law builds on key areas of progress in recent years, made possible by the efforts of educators, communities, parents, and students across the country. We’ve gotten a lot of questions and feedback regarding this law, so if you are not sure about what it means for you, you’re not alone. We put together this FAQ sheet about transitioning to ESSA, and we’re currently working with states and districts on implementing the new law. Sign up for email updates for the latest. (And, if for some reason you need it, you can read the law in full!)

If You’re Interested in Policy

We at the Department of Education, like parents, know the difference a great teacher can make in children’s lives. We also know how important high-quality preparation and support is for your success. That’s why the President’s 2017 budget proposes several programs aimed at preparing, developing and retaining great teachers and leaders.

If You’re Interested in Financial Support

Come back tomorrow for a full-round up of financial aid programs that can specifically help teachers!
