President Obama just finished an important speech about the need for Americans to find common ground on immigration reform. But the truth is, over the past two years, the President has refused to use his power to stop the deportations that are tearing apart Latino immigrant communities. At this point, with reform legislation stalled in Congress, we need more than speeches from our President. We need action.
It's the reason why, as we told you yesterday, we're partnering with the Trail of DREAMs and the National Day Laborer Organizing Network (NDLON) to launch a major campaign calling on President Obama to end the 287g program, which is responsible for some of the worst abuses against immigrants across the country. Please take a moment to read yesterday's email, and then join us in telling President Obama to show the leadership he promised, and end the 287g program.
We also need more than whining from people who believe our President can solely handle the problems of this nation. As long as the President has to fight the Republicans to get basic things done, we will have an impasse in the immigration arena. Get your reps doing their jobs and then complain if nothing is done.
