Lasting 10 minutes, Friday's eclipse may prove the longest for a millenium [AFP]
Millions of people in Africa and Asia have viewed what is likely to prove the longest solar eclipse of the third millenium.
The path of the eclipse began in Africa on Friday, passing through Chad, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Uganda, Kenya and Somalia before crossing the Indian Ocean, where it reached its peak.
The path then continued into Asia where the eclipse could be seen in Maldives, southern India, parts of Sri Lanka, Myanmar and China. At around 10 minutes duration, Chinese astrologers calculate that the length of Friday's eclipse will not be bettered until December 23, 3043.
