Dating Someone in the Military? (186 hits)

If you fall in the category (or have previously been in this category), please help.
For about the last year and half, I've been communicating with this guy in the military. We met on another website and began sending IMs to one another thereafter. At the time, it seemed that each of us had found a person that we could lean on if we needed to unload problems and pressures. [He was in the middle of a war zone and I was getting ready to graduate college and begin those first, post-undergraduate steps]. As time progressed, we begin to talking to one another on a regular, daily basis--time zone not applied.
Fast forward.
He returns to the U.S. and we exchange phone numbers. At the time, I wasn't really keen on meeting him b/c I...I just didn't feel like we'd had enough time to go there yet. However, while he'd been in Iraq, Kuwait, and eventually Egypt, we'd both expressed wanting to meet in person.
Over this past year of 2008, we've tried many times to find the time to meet one another, but our schedules have prevented that from happening. I'm at the point now where I just want to say the hell with it all and NEVER talk to him again. Part of this is because, he's not available enough for me. I know that him being on active military is partly the cause for this because when he does have leave time, we talk daily.
I've told myself many times--and I do go back and forth about this--that maybe it's God's will for us NOT to meet. Then again, I had to take stock of my past dealings with men and realize that he's probably the only one that had no problem talking about God, church, and worship. And that's a really big thing for me. I have the "unequally yoked" scriptures permanently embedded in my thought life b/c of my mother and siblings.

So can someone please offer any word(s) of advice?

Special I think in situations like this, you should apply extreme caution. If you know in your heart of hearts that you would like a person who will be available for you, then probably a military man isn't for you. I know the idea of a man in uniform would fascinate me, but I would advise you talk with some military wives. After weighing the pros and the cons and if you think this life style is for you then I say go for it.
