You can choose your friends but you cannot choose your family-this can be hurtful if... (580 hits)
What do you think about this statement. Yes, we have those family members that can embarrass us, make us cry, break our heart, etc., but is this a fair statement. If used in the wrong way, this statement can really hurt a person. No one is perfect. To be honest, I have had run-ins with family members, however, I cannot see myself telling them I would choose a friend, or stranger over them. God blessed me with my family, good, bad, or indifferent. It would break my heart if someone were to say this to me. I do not like the statement, "you can choose your friends, but you cannot choose your family." I don't think God would like this statement. Again, what do you think?
Family isn't always blood and blood isn't always family.

This statement is a true statement, but it is nice to see that you have an unconditional love for family no matter how much they may do unlovable things. Not everyone feels the way you do and I am sure there maybe many scenarios (rape, incest, s*xual abuse, physical abuse, etc...) so if someone chooses to distance themselves from blood relatives...then who are we to query their reasons.
