Fun Things to do with your bundle of joy!!! (103 hits)

Toddlers love everything about colors, which is probably why their toys and accoutrements are so brightly colored! If you have a toddler, it’s time to break out the paint and let them go to town. Now, before you say, “This woman has lost her ever-loving mind! There’s no way I’m going to let my little one loose with paint!” Before you say “never,” consider these ideas made from items you likely have in your kitchen right now! These ideas are all non-toxic and edible (just in case you have a toddler who likes to taste everything – like my two-year-old). Be sure to use a smock or put your toddler in some old clothes so you don’t have to worry about stains (been there and learned the hard way!)

Pudding paint. All you need for this is vanilla or white chocolate pudding and some food coloring! Let your little one have fun finger painting on paper plates, waxed paper or freezer wrap. Clean up is easy and tastes good!

Finger paint with soft-drink mix –

2 cups flour

2 envelopes unsweetened soft-drink mix (like KoolAid)

½ cup salt

3 cups boiling water

3 Tablespoons vegetable oil

Carefully mix the wet ingredients into the dry. Once the mixture has cooled it is ready for your little one to use as paint.

Flavored gelatin finger paint –

Any flavor of gelatin (like Jell-O)

Boiling water

Use just enough boiling water until the gelatin is a gooey consistency. Allow to cool and you’re ready to paint!

Another fun thing to do, especially if you have a clothesline outside, is to hang a flat 100% cotton sheet outside and arm your kiddo with spray bottles filled with either watered down tempra paint or water tinted with food coloring and let them paint the sheet. It’s fun to use as a backdrop for future “stage” shows your child might want to do. You can also do this on large sheets of paper and use them for a fun gift wrap. We used a roll of kraft paper to make our Christmas gift wrap one year. If you get snow in your area, you can use this idea to “paint” the snow, too. (did I just mention Christmas and snow…in August?!)
