Registered Nurses in Case Management (512 hits)

Hi Vanessa,
Thanks for starting the group. I started working as a Registered Nurse in 1986. I worked for 10 years doing bedside nursing on a Med-Surg floor, it was very hard and stressful. On most days we would work for 8 hours straight. Many days we would run to the vending machines and our lunch consisted of a soda and a bag of chips. Nursing does have its rewards, it's really a pleasureto see a positive outcome, when the patient is able to return home. In 1996 I moved to Case Management and I got a whole new outlook on Nursing. As a case manager I have to be concerned with how the hospital is getting paid and that the patient is being discharged to safe setting. I think all nurses should take a course in case management, it would help the nurse to look at the whole aspect of patient care, from admission to post discharge. Thanks again for the group.
