I received a couple of comments on my first posted blog that has made me want to delve into this topic a little. It has been discussed countless times before but I would love for there to be a solution.
I am talking about the preconceived notions that we tend to have towards those of our ownrace. One sister, who is a business owner, comments that she does not understand why black owned business get more support from other races but when it comes to receiving support from our own, there is something left to be desired.
My sweetheart is a waiter at Pappa's seafood. He has never been one to look at other blacks in a judgemental manner but he mentioned that it seems as if the stereotype that black customers are less likely to tip as well as someone from another race rings true too often. He even mentioned how his coworkers, who just happen to be black, complain when they are required to wait on a table of African Americans. Our conversation was quickly turned to what reasons may be behind this "lack of tipping."
That illustration was merely a minute example of an important dilemma. So the question that I pose is, why does is it that we do not offer our own the kind of support and respect that we need to strive in this country and most importantly, WHAT CAN BE DONE TO FIX THIS???
Long story, but old thoughts are hard to die out thus need to renew minds via choice... Also this goes both ways. Great question.
