Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. Drapes Detroit in Blue and Gold (1030 hits)
On July 18, 2008 members and affiliates of the International Sorority, Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc., an 85 year old collegiate service oriented organization, organized on November 12, 1922 by seven school teachers on the campus of Butler University located in Indianapolis, IN. will convene in Detroit, Michigan in celebration of their 52nd Boule.
The sorority is under the leadership of International Grand Basileus, Dr. Mynora J. Bryant whose theme for the Boule is, "Visions: The Foundation of Endless Possibilities." All events during the week of July 18-24, 2008 will be held at the Detroit Marriott Renaissance Center, convention headquarters for the organization, which hails from Carey, North Carolina.
During the 6 days of convention activities and celebration, the city of Detroit, well known as the world automotive center and home of Motown, will be draped in royal blue and gold sorority colors reflecting the image of the setting sun on the blue waters of the Detroit River.
Rho Sigma Chapter, host for the conference, has promised that a series of exciting, fun-filled activities, unique to Detroit, will be made available for the entertainment of the membership between and after business sessions and other sorority activities. The membership will kick off their 52nd Boule with a moonlight cruise where views of the skyline and the river walk can be seen from the distance.
A major highlight of convention for the citizens of Detroit will be the Public Meeting to be held on Sunday, July 20, 2008 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. In this evening event, the sorority will confer special presentations and make contributions to selected charities. Guest speaker for the event is, Dr. Ian Smith, medical/diet expert, author, best known as the creator and founder of the 50 Million Pound Challenge. Special favorable recognition will be given to the Columbus Middle School located in Detroit, which has been selected to be the recipient of books brought to Detroit by the membership to be given in the honor of their youth as stimuli and encouragement to continuously develop literacy skills.
Events planned include plenary sessions and workshops in the areas of health, leadership, finance and brain trusts. Mother Love, ardent supporter of diabetes management programs, sorority member, entertainer, author, and T.V. commentator of the original Forgive and Forget TV show, is scheduled to be the facilitator of a Health workshop.
Other activities scheduled for the convention will include pageants, luncheons, banquets and awards ceremonies, which acknowledge the accomplishments and achievements of the membership. A delightful reception has been planned for the International Grand Basileus, Mynora J. Bryant, who will be completing her final term of office as leader of the Sorority.
