Faith Under Fire Author Takes Her Message to Church To Stop the Deceit and the Death (1041 hits)
It's not just the down low--it's deadly! Lies and deceit are killing black women at epidemic proportions and one author--Dr. LaJoyce Brookshire--is crusading around the country to help put a stop to it.
Although African Americans make up less than 13% of the U.S. population, they accounted for 49% of new HIV/AIDS diagnoses in the most recent data. The Center for Disease Control has called it a crisis.
But African American women--heteros*xual African-American women, many of whom thought they were in committed relationships--account for 66% of all HIV/AIDS diagnosis.
There is an epidemic and LaJoyce Brookshire has made it her mission, literally, to spread the word, hitting home with her 50-city church tour.
In Faith Under Fire, her true story of marrying a man with AIDS, who didn't bother to tell her he had the disease, LaJoyce talks about how she survived. Her story is not only an inspiration, but also a must-read for anyone seeking answers in their relationships.
Published by Karen Hunter Publishing, a division of Pocket Books at Simon & Schuster, it is the kind of motivational message that is certain to change lives.
"While her story involves a miracle, the message of LaJoyce Brookshire is one that we can all live by," said publisher Karen Hunter. "But more important is LaJoyce's desire to save lives. Too many people are dying--and far, far too many of them are black women. We are in a crisis and her story can help a whole lot of women wake up."
LaJoyce's 50-city church tour is heading to the West Coast. She will be speaking at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church on Friday, July 11, and Emmanuel Community Church in South Bend, Indiana on July 26. She will also be doing a book signing at the National Association of Black Journalists on July 24.
