IT'S A PARTY ON JUNE 15!
It was in1984, when WVAS first went on-the-air as an NPR affiliated radio station that is located on the campus of The Alabama State University. It is proudly celebrating its 35th broadcasting anniversary on June 15, from 6-9 p.m. at ASU's J. Garrick Hardy ballroom.

The news media is invited to join us at that time to capture the spirit, history, music and humor of the event; and to grab an interview with Roy Wood, Jr.

EVENT PAYS TRIBUTE TO TWO BROADCASTING LEGENDS
The celebration will honor two broadcasting giants who played a role in getting the station created and in keeping it going in its early days - Dr. John F. Knight, Jr. and Roy Wood, Sr.

Dr. John F. Knight, Jr. had the foresight and perseverance to make the idea of a public broadcasting station located on the campus of Alabama State University a reality. Through his efforts, the “Voice of Alabama State University” was established and has gone on to win numerous awards, recognition and accolades.

Roy Wood, Sr. was a broadcast legend unafraid to take on the ills and injustices of society. His long-running program, “One Black Man’s Opinion” was ahead of its time and was revolutionary in content and unapologetic in its delivery.

For purposes of your news media coverage, renowned comic Roy Wood Jr. will make remarks on behalf of his father at the event to whom we are paying tribute for his ground-breaking radio career. Interviews are available just before the event begins and afterwords.
