On your mark, get set, linger. . . .
It's been over a week where Lagos held it's gruelling 11km marathothon across the Third Mainland Bridge. The place where many runners took 20km at the Eko Atlantic of the reclaimed sea. The 6.2 mile run had an estimated of 10,000 runners on a very hot and humid Saturday, February 02, 2019. Runners had to race in muggy and humid conditions to finish the long stretch . Major sections were and busy traffic also had their own situations as the main streets were closed for the races. Athletes came from East Africa with Ethiopians and Kenyans taking top spots in the men's and women's races. Winner of the men's marathon Sinayehu Legese won by a timing of 17 minutes and 27 seconds. And His compatriot Meseret Dinkie won the women's race in a margin time of 2:48: 10. Each of the winners received a large cash prize of $50,000 and a plot of land.
It was a rewarding day for all runners and participants because everyone got a commemorative medal from being the race. This was the the Fourth Edition Year of the Marathon. Everyone was a winner. . but that day of hot weather lingered with pain for many racers.
