Alabama State University's WVAS NPR Station Wins Two ABBY Awards (2243 hits)

Alabama State University's campus National Public Radio station, WVAS-FM, recently received two "Best in Broadcasting Awards" (ABBYs) from the Alabama Broadcasters Association.

The awards were presented during the 10th annual “Best in Broadcasting” Awards on March 24, in Birmingham and were in recognition of work that was presented in 2017.

“It really means a lot to be recognized for the work and effort that the staff puts in on a daily basis," said WVAS station manager Jay Holcey. "We have an awesome team that's dedicated and passionate about what they do and I'm so proud to be working with them. Receiving accolades to be the best in broadcasting in the state of Alabama is truly amazing!”

This year’s winners are Marcus Hyles, senior news correspondent, for Best Medium Market Regularly Scheduled Newscast and Renardo Smith, producer, for Best Medium Market PSA for "Angel Tree Project."

The Alabama Broadcasters Association is the voice of the broadcasting industry in Alabama. It is dedicated to protecting and enhancing broadcasting and promoting the professional status of its members.
