A strong 6.2 earthquake shocked early morning hours in towns and cities Accumoli and Amartrice Italy on August 24, 2016. Most people were asleep when the quake stirred a strong rumble destroying buildings and villages. In addition reports had indicated that 73 perished in the Lazio region and the death toll may climb. Tremors were also felt in the city of Rome which approximately 100 miles away. The quake happened around 3:36 am. local Italy time. The town of Amartrice was badly destroyed leaving many homeless and power outages. Panic filled the residents with tremors reminding them of the magnitude of the quake. Emergency officials are reacting as quickly as possible to assist earthquake victims. Residents are continually seeking shelter and aid and hospital personnel are assisting the wounded and injured. A drone circulated and captured photographs of the quakes aftermath.
