Restaurant Offers Discount To Gun Owners (3039 hits)
A Louisiana restaurant has begun offering a discount to customers carrying concealed weapons.
The Little Pizza Joint, in Denham Springs, Louisiana, invites customers to bring their guns to the restaurant, offering a 10 percent discount for those who have a valid concealed weapons permit, according to WBRZ. The Little Pizza Joint's owner, Kevin Whitehead, said that the deal is being offered in support of gun owners' rights.
"We support the Second Amendment," said Whitehead. "We support the open carry. We support safety of weapons."
The business owner added that the deal was meant to honor those who took the time to learn safe gun use. "If they have taken the time to go and do that class, then we wanted to give back. It's not much, but it's something that helps," he said.
Whitehead said that he will also offer discounts to those who are active in the military and emergency first responders. The pizzeria owner added that he does not foresee any pushback from his policies.
"I don't believe there will be any negative reaction. If there is, everybody has the right to their opinion," he said.
"I don't think enough places out there appreciate the silent majority that are concealed weapons permit holders," said Little Pizza Joint customer Derrick Hernandez.
In the past few years, a number of other restaurants have had similar offers - such as Papa Roux in Indianapolis, whose owner Art Bouvier offered a 25 percent discount in October 2015 to customers with concealed carry permits after his business was robbed, according to the Indianapolis Star.
"If thugs are going to come in and threaten OUR extended family with guns, you'd better believe I will use every trick I know to protect [our family,]" wrote Bouvier in a Facebook post announcing the discount shortly after the robbery, which gained over 1,000 likes.
"We're not saying, 'Show us your gun,'" said Bouvier. "But if you're a legal and stable carrier of a [handgun license], I'm going to reward that."
In a similar case in 2013, All Around Pizza and Deli in Virginia Beach, Virginia offered a 15 percent discount to any customer who came in carrying a gun or showed their concealed carry permit.
Jay Laze, the owner of the deli, said that he had been inspired by a frozen yogurt shop in Utah that held a similar promotion. "I thought it was a great idea, and I was wondering why nobody here was doing it" Laze said, according to Huffington Post. "It should be happening all around the country."
