Interior formatting for an ebook (439 hits)

Ebook formatting and manuscript formatting are different. Depending on which one you choose, you will need to setup your document before or after writing your story. The interior format for an ebook is listed below. You can set Microsoft Word or whatever resource you use so that your book follows these guidelines. If a book is not formatted properly, it can be rejected.
Ebook Format In Word
 Click Page Layout
 Click Margins or open Page Setup Box
 Click Narrow Margins or enter 0.5
 Choose Portrait
 Click Whole Document
 Click Paper Tab (located in Page Setup Box)
 Width enter 6 (average size of ebook)
 Height enter 9 (average size of ebook)
The gutter can be left alone unless you plan to print your book as well. If that is the case, you need to know the requirements for the company you choose. CreateSpace and Ingram both; will tell you exactly how much gutter space is needed, to print your book.
Using headers and footers in Microsoft Word
 Click insert
 Click header – in text box enter book title to the left or the right. (I have seen it entered both ways in ebooks) You can also place the authors name across from the title to the right, again I have seen this both ways. So choose which looks better to you!
 Click footer – here you will enter your page numbers, again I have seen page numbers up top to the right and below to the right. So again; I think this is another area where you will have to choose what works for you.
You can also use headers when you start new chapters. Again, that will be up to you, I have seen books with and without in ebook format.
Note: a paragraph does consist of five sentences. The first line of each paragraph should be indented. You should also choose your line spacing while in the paragraph box.
To indent a paragraph
 Right click mouse or click page layout
 Open paragraph box
 Choose first line indent – as you start a new paragraph that first word will automatically indent.
 Go to line spacing- choose 1.5
 Click save and your changes will be added to the format of your page. You can also save your formats as a template and use them over and over.
I may have missed something. So please do your research regardless!!!!
