Two Powerful Fall Dance Concerts Coming to ASU’s Leila Barlow Theatre


WHAT: Alabama State University has scheduled two powerful dance concerts in October.

WHEN: TONIGHT (Oct. 16) & another next week (Oct. 21-24); both start at 7 p.m.

WHERE: ASU's Leila Barlow Theatre in Tullibody Fine Arts Building; corner of S. Jackson & N. University.


Tonight, report on a Friday night performance by a world-renowned, Emmy Award- winning dance troupe and next week, do a news story on ASU's noted Dance Company, which will present its own performance during a four-day run; - with both events presented by ASU’s Department of Theatre Arts.

Dayton Contemporary Dance Company's “Young, Gifted and Black”
TONIGHT - Friday - Oct 16

TONIGHT, the renowned, Emmy Award winning Dayton Contemporary Dance Company (DCDC) out of Dayton, Ohio, is bringing its tour to ASU (Oct. 16), at 7 p.m. at the Leila Barlow Theatre in the Tullibody Fine Arts Building.



“Young, Gifted and Black” showcases various types of dance by leading choreographers of color. The performance is part of an initiative to introduce professional dance on the campuses of Historically Black Colleges & Universities (HBCUs) across the nation.



General admission is $15 and $10 for ASU students.



The Alabama State Council of the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts helped support this event.


ASU's Dance Company's “Passion-Poise-Power Move”
Oct. 21-24

Alabama State University’s Bachelor of Fine Arts Dance Program will perform “Passion-Poise-Power-Move,” directed by James R. Atkinson, on Oct. 21-24 at 7 p.m. at the Leila Barlow Theatre in the Tullibody Fine Arts Building.


The concert will feature a collection of choreography dance styles, including genres from hip-hop, ballet and contemporary dance.


General admission is $12 and $8 for students.

The event is made possible with the support of Alabama State Council of the arts and the National Endowment for the Arts.
