5 Lessons We Can Learn From "Straight Outta Compton" (5935 hits)

Just saw the Blockbuster movie, "Straight Outta Compton" which has crossed cultural and race lines, and has far surpassed box office expectations.

It's much more than an entertaining musical biopic about N.W.A, the lives of five young men who forever revolutionized music and pop culture.

This movie has a powerful messages about the power of resilience (your ability to bounce back after any setback) to overcome obstacles and become successful.

Here are the movie messages:

  1. Believe in yourself
  2. Follow your heart's desire...your dreams.
  3. Communicate and speak with your heart to others.
  4. Trust your instinct, your gut feeling
  5. Follow your instinct without doubts.

Not only were those lessons in the movie, but Director F. Gary Gray, talked about how communicating with heart and following his instincts helped him overcome the huge challenges directing the movie.  He had to get it right for those who know hip-hop, the fans of  N.W.A., while at the same time appealing to a wider audience who know nothing about N.W.A.

Our instinct is a built-in survival tool that we often don't use or trust.   It's a gift, just like our ability to love.   But, too often we rely on others; our friends, the media, and "experts" on the Internet to tell us the way we should go.  We listen to their instincts about our lives, instead of our own.

Be careful who you tell or ask for advice.  Some people will put down your dream because they can't see themselves achieving it.   Remember, the dream wasn't given to them, the dream was given to you.

When we trust our built in GPS (instinct), we will find that we will be guided how to make our dreams come true.
