Wildfires on the outskirts of Athens and the Southern Petoponnese peninsula forced many villages to flee on Friday, July 17, 2015. High clouds of smoke could be seen from the burning trees and bushes that acumulated a cloudy sky. In the of Neopoli several homes were destroyed and around 200 people had to be evacuated from a beach after becoming trapped by fire. Although the battled fires were burning fiercely, fire crew fought hard to keep nearby residential areas safe. One aircraft spraying fire retartdants had to make an emergency land. Hundreds of firefighters struggled to bring the mask of blazes under control.
