FASHION OR SHAMING?
Many critics feel the new trend of maternity wear has a linking effect to shaming women Muslim women in Malalysia . The fashioned full legged trousers are now being worn by Malaysia women who are not comfortable with showing their bodies to doctors or medical professinals during the time of their child births. Critics claim the clothing item is a source of "body shaming". The garment is a loose pair of jogging like trousers with a hole cut and sewn around where out for the baby's birth. The Mamapride trousers were released around a year ago has increased in sales and has women's rights group AWAM {All Women's Action Society} distraught of a company's making profits off of shaming women bodies. Although the makers of the trousers indicate the item of clothing is worn only by a mother's choosing. The Mamapride trousers were introduced by a team of 19 health workers, 5 being women in responding to the need for women who expressed concerned over of showing their bodies during child birth, or examinations. The maternity wear could pose a risk, if emergency conditions got complicated, and active critics are not well pleased that such a garment isn't making profit from women who feel insecure about their bodies. The trousers have been sold in Britian, Ireland, Singapore and Indonesia, now Muslim women of Malaysia are now buying the trousers and wearing them during their pregnacies and births.
