Johnny Kemp, the man behind the club hit to play on many Friday nights, “Just Got Paid,” has died at 55. The Bahamas Weekly is reporting that Kemp passed away on Thursday, April 16. The details around his death are still unknown.
While there are some media outlets reporting that Kemp died while on board of the Tom Joyner Cruise, Reach Media explained that Kemp was not on the cruise. They gave us the following statement:
“We have received confirmation that Johnny Kemp has passed away. We do not have any other details. We can confirm he was also not on the ship.”

Our sources tell us that Kemp was scheduled to perform with Teddy Riley on the cruise this week, however, he was not on the ship. No further details have been confirmed.
Kemp started his singing career as a teenager in the Bahamas, before moving to New York in 1979. Kemp’s hits include “Just Another Lover,” and “Dancin’ with Myself” off his Secrets of Flying album. Kemp also appeared Keith Sweat’s DVD Sweat Hotel Live.
