Phoenix Dad Left to Raise Newborn Quadruplets After His Wife Dies During Delivery

Carlos Morales with quadruplets

Phoenix, AZ — When Carlos Morales kissed his pregnant wife Erica in the hospital and told her he loved her, he had no idea that he would never see her alive again. Sadly, just minutes before she delivered their quadruplets, she died from hypovolemic shock. But the four babies were safely delivered.

Carlos has since been raising the quadruplets (three girls, one boy) on his own.

“Everything I do now is for my children,” Carlos told People Magazine. “Our family and friends have been very supportive too.”

“I’m learning everything from how to give them a bath, CPR, feeding, and how to manage their sleep schedule,” he says. “I need to be prepared.”

How they met

Carlos and Erica originally met in Scottsdale, Arizona at a nightclub back in 2006. “I didn’t speak any English and she didn’t speak any Spanish. But I asked her to dance and she said yes,” he says.

But when the two reunited at a later time, Erica learned Spanish, Carlos learned English, and in 2007 they got married in Las Vegas.

Their first pregnancy was a miscarriage, but they found out that Erica was pregnant again last June after undergoing fertility treatment. This time, she was having quadruplets.

The donations

Fortunately for Carlos, people have been very compelled to help him out. One of his friends set up a crowdfunding page on GoFundMe, and it has already raised more than $300,000. The donations came from more than 8,000 people all around the world.

On the page, Carlos posted a messaging saying “I can’t express the amount of gratitude I have for everyone.”

Regarding the babies, he says, “They are all doing well getting stronger each day and may even be coming soon they’re all right around 4 lbs . They’ve been taken out of their incubators which means they’re able to maintain their temperature all by themselves and they’re feeding from bottles instead of tubes.”
