A tourist boat returning from a snorkling expedition off the northwest shores of Mexico was struck by a large grey whale which caused one of it's passengers to go overboard. A 35 year old Canadian woman not identified, went overboard and later died at the hospital in Cabo San Lucas off the Mexico border. Two others aboard the tour boat were injured. News of the accident has conflicting stories; as one stated that the whale came aboard and struck the woman and the passengers and another related that the woman went overboard as the boat was trying to avoid striking the whale when it made sharp turn which caused the woman to fall off the boat. There were 23 people aboard the small vessel when the accident occured on March 12, 2015. Small boats are used commonly in snorkling outings, but accidents involving with whales are rare. Locals have reported that the grey whale population has increased in recent years.
