CEDRIC THE ENTERAINER SPEAKS ON COMEDY, RACE, AND THE MICHEAL BROWN SHOOTING (2404 hits)
Cedric the Entertainer is famous for comedy, but the St. Louis bred comedian definitely also has a serious side.
As the world prepares for the grand jury decision about whether white police officer Darren Wilson will be charged in the fatal August shooting of black teenager Michael Brown in Ferguson, Mo., the comedian is speaking candidly about his feelings on the situation.
“Policing in the African-American is getting a bit aggressive. There’s something to be done on a national level, looking at how people are policed in their neighborhood,” he said in an on-camera interview with the Wall Street Journal.
“In the Darren Wilson situation, I really want the truth and the facts to come out. There appears to be a little posturing in the sense that you kind of instantly divide lines,” he added.
“The police have a side and then the victim has a side and people aren’t really trying to find out what the truth of the matter is.”
Having grown up in the area, he said he believes the relationship between the community and the police has been strained there much longer than the rest of the nation knows.
“The community is poised to pounce. They are upset about it. This Mike Brown situation is one circumstance,” he said. “But growing up in St. Louis and living there, this is not new to us.”
