The son-in-law of Osama Bin Laden was found guilty of conspiracy to kill Americans received a life sentence after being convicted guilty in March 2014. Sulaiman Abu Ghaith faced a New York trial for his participation in the 911 plight 13 years ago. Abu Ghaith is considered as the highest ranking al-Qaeda figure to face a trial on US soil since the attacks. Abu Ghaith argued that his participation in the attack of 911 was strickly religous and was aimed at encouraging all Muslims to rise against their oppressors. He also claimed that his deceased Father-in-law asked him to be an al-Qaeda's spokeman on the night before the 911 attacks. He was sentenced to life for charges of terrorism.
