Blues Legends Coming to Columbus to Benefit Columbus Cancer Clinic (1615 hits)
On Saturday, August 23rd, some of the most recognized names in Blues history will be making their way to the stage for a private benefit--all in the name of battling cancer. The concert, which will take place at LifeCare Alliance Center at 670 Harmon Ave, provides an intimate setting which allows the audience to truly experience the healing power of the blues.
Project Blues, founded four years ago by The Bear in the Chair, Mike Berichon, has pulled together an amazing roster of blues icons including the Muddy Waters Tribute Band. "Our mission is simple, we use the hardship, fellowship and healing nature of the blues to lift spirits and connect families in need of cancer resources," said Berichon. Other artists performing at the event include: The Amazing Karen Lovely, The Jonn Richardson Band, Deuce and a Quarter and Sean Carney.
Besides from the Grammy-winning talent in attendance, one of the most notable differences with this fundraiser is the pre-benefit event which occurs on Friday, August 22nd. LifeCare Alliance shuttles nearly 400 clinic patients, families and clients to the venue for a free concert and first-class meal. "For most of these families, this is the first time they've ever been treated to a first-class event like this. And, the artists get just as much out of it as the patients do. They love the opportunity to actually perform for the very people that are in need…it's a real love-fest," states Berichon.
All proceeds from the benefit will be used to provide free mammograms to those in need. Tickets for the event can be purchased at www.projectblues.org.
