Your National News Day 11 August 2014 Worchester/Salem, NH
The food chain store Market Basket are not filling any baskets! That's because many of the distribution staff have left their jobs. No orders have been filled leaving the local stores without deliveries of meat, bakery and also produce.
The major cause of those empty shelves came from distributions workers walking off their jobs. In the protest workers are wanting the re-hire of their former President/CEO Arthur T. Demoulas. Arthur T. as he is well known was fired several weeks and but his fire led to workers demanding him back at his position. However, the Market Basket Board of Directors are not giving in to hire him again. Meanwhile, weeks of organized protests have hurt stores which are unable to supply needs for their empty shelves. So far; at least 20,000 workers are in on the protests. Employees claim they have a much more personal relationship with the former boss and that merits his rehire. Meantime, the corporation is holding job fairs to fill positions if present workers do not return to their jobs. Store shelves with no food will soon have to close its doors if the no agreements are met for workers to return. Many warehouse workers however, are slowly returning to their jobs. So far, there are no definite plans to take back the former president/Ceo. The corporate former boss is awaiting an deal/ share offer to buy stock in the company.
