Leo Health ~ Recommended Vitamins, Herbs, and Dietary Considerations (742 hits)

Leo, the Lion, is the 5th sign of the Western zodiac. Individuals who are born during July 22nd to August 23rd are born under the sign (or constellation) of Leo.

Leo is a fire sign and in the language of astrology the fire element or quadruplicity traits include: energetic, creative, inspirational, motivational, aspiring, enthusiastic, and lively. However, Leos can be bold, domineering, rebellious, spontaneous, and hot-tempered. Fire signs include: Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius.

Leo's astrological statement is "I Shine" and/or "I Will!" Both statements are befitting of this sign. Leos are strong willed individuals and they love to shine.

Leo is a Fixed sign meaning Leos are rigid and do not like change. They can be very stubborn just like their fixed sign brethren Taurus, a sign Leos have great difficulty in getting along with, especially in relationships. Other Fixed signs besides Leo and Taurus include Scorpio and Aquarius.

Leo corresponds to the astrological Fifth House - the House of Creativity, Children, Love and Romance, and Fun. While all the other houses up to this point dealt with staying alive, the fifth house is the house that says, "Let's enjoy ourselves". The pure Leo has a commanding personality and stands out from the crowd. This sign is a leader always seeking a position of command or authority. They find it very difficult and challenging to relinquish the dominant position.

The ideal sign for romance and marriage for Leo is its astrological opposite sign, which is Aquarius.

As Leo is a Fire sign, Leos will do well in relationships with other Fire signs: Aries and Sagittarius.

Famous Sun sign Leos include: Kobe Bryant, Bill Clinton, Madonna, Martha Stewart, George Bernard Shaw, Jennifer Lopez, Earvin "Magic" Johnson, Halle Berry, Angela Basset, Vivica A. Fox, Laurence Fishburn, Count Basie, Whitney Houston, Neil Armstrong, and Fidel Castro.

Leo governs the heart, upper back, eyes, blood, spine, aorta, myelin sheaths, and lungs. Leos are prone to the following diseases, disorders, and injuries: Heart disease, Pleurisy, Cardiac problems, Lower back pain/Backache, Fevers, Jaundice, High blood pressure/Hypertension, Eye diseases, Scoliosis, Excessive meat eating (especially red meat), Alcoholism, Dehydration, and Stroke.

Dietary Considerations

Leo's cell salt (also known as mineral salt or tissue salt) is Magnesium Phosphate. Leos should be sure to get plenty of this particular cell salt in their diet.

Foods recommended for Leos include:

Caviar
Caviar is the lightly salted egg (fish roe) of sturgeons that have been allowed to mature. According to a Harvard study, "the sturgeon, the only fish whose roe was ruled by the FDA as caviar, is prehistoric and has been around for 250 million years. References to caviar in literature and art date back almost as far as the sturgeon itself." The best caviar available is Beluga and comes from the Caspian Sea, making Russia and Iran the leaders in production. In ancient times it was reserved for royalty. Although high in cholesterol, one serving of caviar is loaded with vitamins A, B and E. This decadent appetizer was created for the extravagant Lion.

Cayenne
What other sign could possibly conjure up the spice that cayenne pepper does? Not many. This medicinal herb has many healthy benefits for the Leo; Cayenne pepper has a stimulating effect on the circulatory system and is considered the best seasoning in regard to blood flow and as an aid to the digestive system. A little goes a long way, so use with caution. The Lion loves the spice of life so add a little cayenne to your dish and you just may be in for the time of your life.

Figs
Known as the fitness fruit, figs are loaded with fiber, vitamins and minerals that help with lowering blood pressure, losing weight, promoting bone and teeth health, and stabilizing blood sugar and cardiovascular health. Figs are delicate and have a unique taste and texture, making them popular in one of the oldest cookies in America -- Fig Newtons. The Lion loves the sweetness of the fig and the extra energy that it packs.

Grapes
Grapes date back to 3500 BC, making them one of the first fruit crops to be domesticated. While seedless grapes may be more desirable, grape seed extract prevents heart disease. Wine was first made from grapes in prehistoric times. Red wine is known to lower bad cholesterol and raise good cholesterol, contributing to a healthy heart. Grapes and a nice low fat cheese served with a glass of red wine would be the perfect dessert choice for the heart of every Leo.

Honey
Considered to be the nectar of the Gods, especially the Sun God, the regal lion will benefit from the natural properties associated with this amber liquid. Honey has long been used for treating burns or wounds, as it facilitates the healing process. It is also synonymous with happiness, fulfillment and elevating one's mood. So when the Lion in your life is starting to roar or that magnanimous heart is feeling wounded, honey will be just what the doctor order to soothe the beast.

Lobster
Lobster is sacred to the Greek Gods. It is the also king of the shellfish. Both these facts make it a most appropriate feast for the king of beasts. Leos love extravagance, luxury and richness, and lobster is considered to be all three in many countries. The rich flavor sits well on the royal palate.

Marzipan
Marzipan is made of ground almonds and sugar blended into a golden paste, richer and finer than almond paste. It receives its distinct flavor from bitter almonds. Many have seen the colorful marzipan candies formed in the shapes of fruits. Marzipan is also used as a filling in many pastries and cakes seen during the holiday/winter season.

Herbs beneficial to Leos are Angelica, Borage, Dandelion, Hyssop, Rosemary, Nettles, and Mustard. Vitamins are A, C, D, & E.
