Based on Lawrence Hill’s award-winning novel, The Book of Negroes, (also known as Someone Knows My Name) has been made into a film by Canadian filmmaker, Clement Virgo.
The story is about an 11-year-old girl, Aminata, who is abducted from her village in West Africa and sold into slavery. The story follows her incredible journey of pain, courage, determination and hope, eventually leading her to freedom and back to Sierra Leone.
Starring Aunjanue Ellis, Lyriq Bent, Cuba Gooding, Jr. and Louis Gossett, Jr., the film will premiere later this year at the Cannes Film Festival. It will air on television as a 6-hour miniseries during the 2014/2015 season. BET has acquired domestic rights to the film.
